RockBottomGolf.com Review

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Rock Bottom Golf is an online retailer of discount golf equipment. After shattering the steel head of my 5 iron on my 10 year old set of Costco Special Spalding golf clubs I decided it was time for a whole new set. Since ive been playing a lot of golf lately I decided that I wanted a quality name brand that would last me for many years down the line. After perusing the local golf shops I decided that Taylor Made had the feel I was looking for. The clubs that I decided I wanted was a set of Taylor Made RAC OS2 Irons with steel shafts and a Taylor Made R7 Draw driver. I checked out all of the local stores and the average prices were as follows:

TaylorMade RAC OS2 Iron Set With Steel Shafts: $399-$499
Taylor Made r7 Draw Driver: $179-$249
(Stores shopped include: Golf Galaxy, Sports Authority, Pro Golf, Nanuet Golf & Golf Smith)

On the recommendation of a friend I checked out Rock Bottom Golf. I had never heard of the site before but my friend used it a few times and was impressed with their prices and service. After checking out the site I understood why. Although the site has a bit of an amateurish feel to it, their prices KILL other prices on the web. Their selection is not very robust but they happened to have the clubs I was looking for. The Taylor Made RAC OS2 irons were $329 and the TaylorMade R7 Draw Driver wast $149. These prices were way below the brick and mortar competition and after some research also below other internet sites. I used a coupon for Free Shipping but had to pay tax as they have a distribution center in NY. My only complaint about the checkout process is that they do not allow you to use an American Express card unless you use paypal as your payment option.

RockBottomGolf.com packed and shipped my order very quickly. It left their warehouse within 24 hours of my order. They sent a FedEx tracking number as well as a UPS Ground tracking number. The FedEx one worked and the UPS one did not. I assume they have some sort of a glitch. I had my order shipped to a business address to assure I could sign for it when it came. On the Rock Bottom Golf checkout they had a box to check if the order was for residential or business delivery. I checked business delivery and they sent it FedEx Home Delivery. The first delivery attempt was on a Saturday when no one was there (exactly the situation I was trying to avoid) since its a business and is only oper M-F 9-6pm. FedEx home doesn’t deliver on Mondays so I had to wait until tuesday to get my package. None of this was RockBottomGolf’s fault other then that they shipped it FedEx Home.

When the order arrived it was well packed and came exactly as described (this is the only thing that really matters after all). Time from order to delivery was 5 days which is pretty fast. I would definetly use RockBottomGolf.com again and suggest you give them a chance if you are in the market for Golf Clubs.

39DollarGlasses.com Review

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

This is the first of many reviews you can expect from BargainBomb.com.  As we use some of the sites ourselves we want to report back how the experience was so that you can make an informed decision about which sites you want to spend your hard earned dollars at.

My wife and I went shopping for glasses.  Since glasses are such an aesthetic object we both thought it would be hard for her to buy glasses online.  We decided to go to a local mall because they had multiple glasses retailers including Lenscrafters, Searc, JC Penney, Cohens Optical and a few others.  What we found out is that glasses can really cost quite a bit if you buy retail.  Glasses at Lenscrafters were quoted out at almost $350 for what she needed.  I remembered we had 39 Dollar Glasses on BargainBomb.com so figured why not give it a try.

The first thing we tried to find was an answer to the question “Does The Site Really Sell Glasses For $39?”  The answer is yes.  Most of the glasses on the site really are 39 dollars.  They do however try to sell a lot of upgrades and if you decide to go with the upgrades the glasses could easily go for over $100.  My wife still wasn’t 100% sure which glasses would look best on her as she is a tiny women.  39DollarGlasses.com has a great feature called “SmartFit” to solve that problem (pictured below).

39DollarGlasses.com SmartFit

What “SmartFit” does is it allows you to choose whether you are a male or female and then choose the face shape that most closely resembles your own.  When you find the facial shape that most closely resembles yours, 39DollarGlasses actually puts the glasses you are considering onto the model so that you could get a good feel of how they will look on your face.  A second feature that 39 Dollar Glasses offers is the ability to print a full size picture of the glasses you are considering (shown below):

39 Dollar Glasses - Print Full Sized Photo

This is also a nice feature because you can get a feel for how big the glasses will look on your face.  If you try both the “SmartFit” feature as well as the “Print” feature you should end up with glasses that will fit you well and look attractive.  The only other feature I could think of that would really help someone decide if they were ordering the right glasses would be the ability to upload a photo of yourself and put the glasses on the photo.  Then they should give you the ability to copy and paste an html snippet of the updated photo into your Myspace, Blog, Facebook or whatever.  Why not make the glasses buying experience a social marketing experiment?  (NOTE TO 39DOLLARGLASSES: IF YOU SEE THIS AND CREATE THE FEATURE GIVE ME CREDIT :) )

After finding the right glasses the checkout process is pretty painless.  You give them your prescription information and do the normal song and dance with your credit card info and your product is ordered.  The total cost was $39 for the glasses plus $4.95 shipping for a grand total of $43.95.  From order to receiving the product took about 1 week.

The glasses themselves came nicely packaged with a FREE 39DollarGlasses.com soft case/cleaning cloth.  My wife ordered plastic frames.  For $39 the quality is actually quite good.  The only complaint she has is that they sit slightly crooked on her face.  She doesn’t wear glasses most of the time so it doesn’t bother her much but they should include instructions on adjusting the frames to sit straight.  The prescription is dead on and she is quite enjoying her purchase.

To conclude, 39DollarGlasses makes good on their promise to deliver 39 Dollar Glasses.  They also have quite a few features to help you choose the right glasses and get those glasses to you quickly.  I recommend the site to anyone looking for a discount pair of glasses.
